After 2,500 years, Myrtis, the young Athenian girl is ‘reborn’ at Athens International Airport. Aiming to contribute to the promotion of an admirable achievement of the international scientific community, Athens International Airport, hosts a significant photography exhibition, from June through to December 2010, titled : «Myrtis: Face to face with the past».

The airport exhibition, staged in cooperation with the scientific team of orthodontist, Assistant Professor at the University of Athens, Manolis Papagrigorakis, succeeds the first presentation of the reconstruction of the young Athenian’s face at the new Acropolis Museum, and the equally exciting display at the Goulandris Natural History Museum.

Athens International Airport invites passengers and visitors to the airport’s new photography exhibition, on display from June 1st through to December 31st, on Arrivals Level / Entrance 1. The exhibition area is accessible for all airport visitors on a 24-hour basis.

trip_air2_lThe International Airport of Athens, a transitional area for thousands of Greek and foreign passengers, hosts a photography exhibition of the journey of Myrtis through time, with the contribution of many scientists and researchers for its realization. How can we follow this journey by means of photographs? How can we excite the interest of the visitor who comes unexpectedly face to face with Myrtis? And how can he have the opportunity, in case he wishes to, to comprehend the basic stages of this journey? The answer to these questions was the keystone of the philosophy of this photography exhibition. Our intention is that the exhibition functions in two levels: clear photographs in big size for the traveler who simply casts a fleeting glance, and cohesion and continuity in a simple, unadorned setting for those travelers who choose to linger for a while and learn more about Myrtis’ journey. A reticent but succinct text, complementary to the photographs, and photographs that piece by piece compose the puzzle, bring us face to face with the eleven year-old girl of the Golden Age of Pericles.
