 PRESS RELEASE

“Myrtis: face to face with the past”

Exhibition at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki

14 January 14th - March 13th 2011

The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki is pleased to announce the presentation of the successful exhibition “Myrtis: face to face with the past” between 14.01.2011-13.03.2011. The exhibition is staged with the generous support of the orthodontist, Assistant Professor Manolis I. Papagrigorakis, along with the University of Athens.

The exhibition presents an important interdisciplinary achievement, the reconstructed face of an anonymous 11 year old child from antiquity. She is Myrtis, as she was named by the archaeologists, who lived in Athens during 5th century B.C., the “golden age” of Pericles, and was one of the thousands of victims of the fatal plague that struck the city in 430 B.C.

After her successful presence in the New Acropolis Museum, the Goulandris Natural History Museum and the National Museum, Myrtis continues her journey off Athens, having as a first stop the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, where she is waiting for you to meet her in person...

A Press Conference is going to take place on
Wednesday, 12 January 2011, at 12.00 a.m.
in the “Manolis Andronikos” auditorium
of the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki
